Screening hEARING TEST (Audiogram)
A hearing test at TOLBECS is a basic screening hearing test which compares your hearing to normal levels. It is the same hearing test that is conducted in schools, workplaces and clinics throughout NZ.
You will not be in a soundproof booth. The test is performed while you are sitting in one of our consult rooms so you will be aware of ambient noise. Before your test the Ear Nurse will examine both your ears under a microscope to ensure the canals are free of wax and your eardrums are healthy.
Our hearing test involves placing tight-fitting earmuffs over your ears to block out most of the surrounding noise. The Ear Nurse will then administer a number of beeping noises and ask you to press a button every time you hear a beep. Each ear is tested separately. The results are plotted on a graph called an audiogram. The test takes about 10 minutes.
Similar to an eye test, this is for screening purposes only. If you fail a screening test, you will be advised to get further testing and investigation with an Audiologist.
TOLBECS offers screening hearing tests for anyone over the age of 4 years old.
