FREE EAR CANAL CHECKS

TOLBECS offers free ear canal checks. Our receptionists are trained to place a camera gently in your ear while you are watching on a computer screen. This service helps determine if an appointment with an Ear Nurse is required.

PLEASE NOTE: a free ear check does not include a hearing test, microsuction, ear wax removal or diagnosis from an Ear Nurse

How does it work?

1. If you would like a free ear check, just pop in during our office hours. However, if you require a consultation with an ear nurse, we do require you to book an appointment.

2. No appointment is needed, there is no charge for this check.

3. This is only a quick ear canal check for ear wax, if you have any problems with your ears you will still be advised to book in with one of our Ear Nurses. This check will not be performed by a nurse.

4. We use a Welch Allyn Macroview Otoscope to look inside your ears (kind of the same as what your doctor uses but a bit more magnification) which is attached to a small laptop which allows you to see inside your ear.

5. Infection control precautions are taken during the ear check including using hand sanitizer before checking your ears and replacing the otoscope tips with new ones for each client. If you have any questions or concerns please address this with us during your visit.

6. Appointments are not always available on the day of your free ear canal check, our receptionist will advise you of the earliest available appointment slot.

When might you need a free ear canal check?

• before any hearing test

• before beach holidays

• before diving or snorkelling

• before flying

• anytime your ears feel funny or hearing is not clear

• every six months if you put anything into your ear like hearing aids, ear plugs etc
