MICROSUCTIONING

At Tolbecs Ear Centre we specialise in microsuctioning. Microsuction is the term used for cleaning ear canals under the magnified view of a surgical microscope while using a small suction unit and/or tiny instruments. Other instruments may also be used to ensure good clearance of your ears.

Microsuction is an important part of our ear consultations. It is safe, gentle, and comfortable. When you have an appointment at TOLBECS, you will be asked to lie down on a bed as this is the safest position for microsuction.

The Ear Nurse will gently hold your ear so that the ear canal entrance is open and easy to view. They will then look through the microscope, allowing a magnified view of your ear canal.

All methods used by TOLBECS Ear Nurses are pain-free and safe. At worst you may find the suction a bit noisy and otherwise a bit tickly but pain is not normal during the procedure.

Microsuctioning can also be done on children, and is mostly tolerated well. Our nurses will normally try to use “quiet” instruments on children if possible.
